Two Trouble-free Housetraining Methods For Your New Puppy

Housetraining is commonly the first thing that a new puppy owner thinks about. Few puppies have received any guidance on housetraining before they go to their new homes. There are two straightforward methods that you can use to housetrain your puppy and you can use either one of them or you can employ both of them at the same time.

The primary way you can get started training your puppy is by using attention and noticing his actions. Puppies will squat to urinate or defecate. As soon as you see you puppy starting to change his posture and starting to cower you will need to scoop him up and take him out to his chosen spot. If you happen to fail to see the signs and he has an accident you should not scold him as he still does not know just what is expected of him and admonishment will just frighten him.

Also, if you miss the signs completely and you find an mishap later it will not do you any good to reproach him them. Dogs cannot infer and they do not realize what they are being scolded for after the fact. They can only relate to what is happening right now. If you discipline your puppy it will just confuse and startle him and cause you more inconvenience in the future.

The newspaper method is the second way of housetraining your puppy. Conceal the whole floor where your puppy runs around. He will do his business on the newspaper and he will quickly learn that the paper is okay. You must then regularly remove more and more newspaper until there is only a small piece left. Then you will be able to take the newspaper outside to the chosen spot. He will then start going there where the newspaper is.

Either of these methods can succeed well. You may want to use both methods at once by using attention during the day and the newspapers at nighttime. When you are active or preoccupied by other things, the newspaper system may work better.

Sometimes an older puppy will go through a stage where he seems to have forgotten what he has learned about housetraining. This can be very frustrating but try not to chastise him for it. It is a common behavior.

Just use usual dog behavior to get him back on track. A dog will infrequently soil his own space. So use a crate and make it comfy so he thinks of it as his own. Let him sleep in the crate and right away as you let him out, take him to his selected spot. He will need to relieve himself right away and he will understand to only do it in that spot.

Housetraining does not need to be thorny or frightening. Both of these methods can be quite effectual and if you try them along with some endurance you will be victorious with your housetraining before you know it.
